Alcohol and the law

Alcohol is a legal substance and there are a number of laws governing the sale, purchase and consumption of alcohol in New Zealand.  The effect of these laws is to criminalise certain types of behaviour, such as drinking and driving, purchase by and sale to minors and, in some cases, drinking in public places.
